There are 31 people in hospital with the coronavirus, including two in intensive care.

The new community cases over the past two days were in Auckland (57), Waikato (7), Taranaki (1), Bay of Plenty (16), Rotorua (2) and Wellington (2).

Thirteen of the Bay of Plenty cases are in Tauranga, and three are in the Western Bay of Plenty District. All cases are linked to previously notified cases.

The new cases in MIQ came from the UK, Australia, Singapore, India, Tanzania, Qatar, USA, Spain, Fiji, Turkey, Ireland, India, Sri Lanka, France, Kenya, Pakistan and Brazil.

There was no information from the Ministry of Health on case numbers yesterday, but the ministry did confirm two cases in Wellington, linked to recent travel to the Bay of Plenty.

It included a possible link of one case to a drum and bass music festival on 3 January at the Wharepai Domain in Mount Maunganui.

There are no further Wellington cases today - the two from yesterday are being added to the case tally today - but the ministry is still encouraging anyone who has visited any of the locations of interest in the Wellington and Otaki areas who have symptoms to get tested, even if they are vaccinated.

There were 35 new community cases and 24 border cases reported on Friday.

There have now been 11,142 cases since the current community outbreak began in August and 14,298 in total since the pandemic began.

The ministry said there were 21,821 vaccines booster doses given yesterday, as well as 746 first doses; 2333 second doses and 194 third primary doses.
