Two arrests made after police officer hit by fleeing car last week

Police have made two arrests after an officer last week received serious injuries when he was hit by a fleeing driver in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn.

Police said the officer was in the process of laying spikes on Great North Road when he was hit, but following surgery and further medical treatment in hospital he is now recovering at home.

A 19-year-old West Auckland man has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, reckless driving causing injury and failing to remain and ascertain injury. He is due to appear in the Waitākere District Court today.

A 15-year-old male has been charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehile and referred to Youth Aid.
