Police asked people to avoid George Street during the incident, which happened at 10am.

Local meat packer Beka Blundell said the pair were fighting, She said one was wearing the colour red, while the other was in blue.

The man in blue can be seen on camera with a machete and knife. The man in red has what appears to be a wooden patu.

Blundell said it was a scary experience.

"Yeah I told my boss to lock the door because they started moving closer and closer down to the shop.

"But nah, I think they were more interested in having a go at each other than involving the public."

Blundell said a third man intercepted the fight, stopping it from getting any worse.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said they received a report of a male with a weapon on George St and that the man was seen to get into a vehicle and drive off.

The vehicle in question was soon located and two people were taken into custody.

"Both were compliant and have been released from custody pending further enquiries which are ongoing."

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a shop owner in Hamilton said there were up to six police cars at the scene of an unfolding incident.

Police were asking people to avoid the area around Bankwood Road and Clarkin Road in Fairfield.

The shop owner said police had blocked the roundabout there.
