A police officer is in Auckland Hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a fleeing driver in New Lynn.

Police were called to a burglary at burglary commercial premises on Great North Rd about 11pm on Sunday.
An officer had laid road spikes at the the corner of Fruitvale and Great North roads in an attempt to stop a vehicle when they were hit.
The car was driven off and crashed shortly after, police said.
Police said they were looking for an unknown number of people from the car who ran away.
The officer is in a serious but stable condition and will undergo surgery on Monday.
