Urgent road repairs are underway in Bay of Plenty after a sinkhole formed on part of State Highway two near Otamarakau.

Waka Kotahi said the sinkhole is in the westbound lane heading to Tauranga between Waitahanui Lane and Otamarakau Valley Road.
It said the road is likely to be closed intermittently between 1.30pm and 3.30pm while repairs are carried out.
The Transport Agency said drivers should expect delays of between five and 10-minutes.
