A 57-year-old man has been charged after the fatal assault of a woman at a flat in Hamilton.

Hamilton City Area Commander Inspector Andrea McBeth said police were called to the flat in the east of the city on Wednesday afternoon.
They found a 55-year-old woman who had been critically injured.
She was rushed to Waikato Hospital and died there today.
Police arrested the man, who was known to the victim, on Wednesday night.
He appeared in the Hamilton District Court yesterday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded in custody.
A post mortem will be conducted over the weekend.
Inspector McBeth said further charges will then be considered.
