Police call for witnesses of attack on female university students in Dunedin

Dunedin police want to hear from witnesses of a serious assault, which resulted in three young woman needing hospital treatment earlier this year.

The assault occurred at 10.35pm on 31 July near the intersection of Cumberland and Dundas Streets in North Dunedin.

A group of female university students were walking along Cumberland Street when they were attacked by a group of up to six youth offenders, police said.

One student suffered serious injuries, while two others were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"Police are aware of a number of people walking and driving past while the incident occurred. We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident," a spokesperson said.

"Police are particularly interested in speaking to a group of men, who were driving a Black Ford Ranger ute and pulled over to help the victims as we believe they have information that could assist the investigation."
