The government is considering further restrictions under alert level 4 to prevent spread among essential workers meanwhile there's been a spate of attacks against some. See how the day's Covid-19 news developed with RNZ's liveblog.

Of the 511 cases confirmed so far as part of the latest outbreak, 73 are essential workers.

Director General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the government is looking at each of the cases where transmission has occurred in the workplace to see if there's anything that can be done to strengthen the health measures.

They want to see no workers getting infected, he said.

Meanwhile, Auckland Transport and Mayor Phil Goff are shocked at the spate of attacks against essential workers, including an assualt against a bus driver in the weekend.

There have been 16 reported incidents invloving abuse or aggression towards Auckland's train, bus, ferry and security staff this lockdown.
