Police investigate fatal shooting in Ōtāhuhu

Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a man at a house in Ōtāhuhu.

The man in his 70s died at the scene.

The death was reported about 9pm at a home on Princess Street East. The victim sustained a gunshot injury, police said yesterday.

Police cordons, and scene guards were been in place overnight.

A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Chris Barry said police would like to hear and anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area.

The victim's family was assisting police with enquiries to establish the circumstances around what happened, he said.

"At this stage we are working hard to piece together the facts as we know it so far.

"We are also providing support to the victim's family."
