The man who was shot dead by police in Hamilton fired a military-style semi-automatic weapon at officers.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said a post mortem examination is taking place today and the man's name will be made public once formal identification is complete.
A cordon remains in place on O'Donoghue Street in Hillcrest.
Meanwhile, the officer who was injured in a fall during the incident has had surgery and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
