13 arrests in major operation targetting meth trade

Thirteen people have been arrested and are facing 62 charges after a major drug operation in south Canterbury and north Otago.

The police say they carried out 22 search warrants at multiple addresses between Temuka and Oamaru over the past two days.

Aoraki Area Commander Dave Gaskin said the undertaking, known as Operation Gipsy, would cause significant disruption to methamphetamine distribution in the region.

More than $10,000 in cash was seized, as well as ammunition, a taser, cannabis plants and 103 grams of meth. The estimated street value of the seized methamphetamine was

$60,000.

A secret laboratory was also found, along with three cannabis-growing operations.
