Highway crashes cause injury, delays

Crashes on two state highways have left one person critically injured and blocked lanes, causing delays.

State Highway 2 in the Tararua District was blocked this evening due to a collision between two cars near Henderson Road about 5.20pm.

Police said one person was critically injured and a helicopter was on its way.

Diversions were in place but motorists were asked to delay travel or avoid the area if possible.

On State Highway 1 on the Waikato Expressway, one northbound lane was also closed after two cars crashed about 5.15 near Whangamarino Road.

One vehicle was stuck in a median barrier.

No one was injured in the crash, but motorists were warned to expect delays.
