Man arrested after making threats of firearm at central Auckland property

A man has been arrested after barricading himself inside of a property in the Tāmaki Makaurau suburb of Mount Albert.

The incident started at around 2:30 pm when the driver of a suspicious vehicle fled police from Whitaker Place in central Auckland.

This vehicle was not pursued and was later located at an address near New North Road and Taylors Road.

The Armed Offenders Squad, along with the Police Eagle helicopter, were deployed after the man made threats that he had a firearm.

However, officials cleared the address and no weapon was found.

No charges have been laid at this stage, but the man taken into custody was assisting police with their enquiries.
