Covid-19 update: No community cases in NZ for fourth day in a row

There have been no new community cases of Covid-19 reported in New Zealand today, with just one case in managed isolation.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said the number of active cases remains at 71, with one previously reported case now recovered. The total number of confirmed cases is 1948.

Today's new case arrived in New Zealand on 26 January from the United Kingdom via Qatar.

New Zealand's laboratories processed more than 45,000 tests this week.

The ministry said all test results of close contacts of the border-related cases revealed this week are negative. It said Auckland's public health authorities were closely monitoring demand for testing during the long weekend.

There were no new community cases of Covid-19 reported in New Zealand yesterday, with one case in managed isolation.

The Ministry of Health is concerned about new European Union controls on Covid-19 vaccine exports, but says it expects manufacturers to stick to timeframes in purchase agreements.

And tourism operators say they are facing increasing compliance costs as they struggle financially due to the lack of international visitors.
