A 21-year-old man, who can't be named, died after what police called a "random and unprovoked attack" on 2 October.

Two men, aged 23 and 24, have been charged with murder while another pair, both aged 26, have been charged with aggravated robbery.

All four appeared in the High Court at Auckland today where they entered not guilty pleas to each of the charges through their lawyers.

The victim's whānau filled the public gallery as a Samoan interpreter translated the legal proceedings for the defendants.

Crown Solicitor for Manukau Natalie Walker sought suppression of the victim's name on behalf of his family, citing extreme grief.

Justice Fitzgerald granted interim suppression pending the filing of a formal application and remanded the defendants, two in custody and two on bail, to the next hearing date.

The four men will go to trial next year.
