One person has died after a car crashed into a tree in Wellington.
Emergency services were called to the scene near the intersection of Evans Bay Parade and Cobham Drive just before 6am.
Police said one other person had minor injuries.
The westbound lane heading into Wellington City from the airport has now reopened. The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
Police have set up diversions, but drivers are asked to avoid the area.
