A passing steam locomotive has set several fires alight in scrub this afternoon in Gisborne.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand were called to Grey Street in the centre of town about 1.10pm.
The first fire was about 10 square metres, but spread quickly.
A fire spokesperson said something may have fallen off the train.
Six fire crews attended.
