Police have launched a homicide investigation following the unexplained death of a man in Lower Hutt.

Emergency services were called to a report of an assault at an address on Burke Grove, in Naenae, before 11pm yesterday.
Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they are speaking to a number of people to establish the circumstances and do not believe there is any ongoing risk to members of the public.
A scene guard has been in place and an examination of the site is continuing.
