Katrina Epiha, 22, was last seen early on Friday afternoon in Māngere.

Police say she is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Epiha has distinctive tattoos on both sides of her face and was last seen wearing a black long-sleeved top with a white-shirt underneath, grey track pants and light pink running shoes.

She was jailed for life with a 10-year non-parole period for the murder of Alicia Nathan in Christchurch in August 2017.

Police said they were working closely with Corrections and have undertaken significant inquiries to locate her, including searching a number of addresses over the weekend.

Police urge anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact them and are also warning anyone caught helping Eipha during her escape risks being prosecuted.

They said any information received would be treated in strict confidence.
