A 35-year-old man is due to appear in the Porirua District Court and a 42-year-old man in the Hutt Valley District Court on firearms charges next week.

Detective Sergeant Shaun Richardson said the semi-automatic was seized in Porirua on Wednesday.

A search warrant in Lower Hutt yesterday found two rifles and a large quantity of ammunition.

Richardson said police are concerned they are still finding banned weapons in the hands of people with gang associations, and are determined to get them off the streets.
