A woman has died after she was hit a train at a level crossing in Tawa in Wellington.

Police were alerted to reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a train at 12.55pm.
They said the incident occurred at a level crossing near the intersection of Hinau St and McClellan St.
Enquiries to establish the circumstances were underway, police said, and cordons would remain in place.
