First arrest in Tongariro bones discovery

Police officers investigating the killing of a person found buried near Tongariro have made an arrest.

Bao Chang Wang - known as Ricky Wang - has been missing since 2017.

Police uncovered human remains buried in a shallow grave off Rangipo Intake Road in March.

A 29-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon and has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Police are still trying to identify the man found buried but believe he is Bao Chang Wang, also known as Ricky Wang, who has been missing since 2017.

Detective Inspector John Sutton said the arrest is a result of the hard work and dedication by the investigation team over an extended period of time.

"The homicide investigation is ongoing and Police enquiries are continuing," he said.

"Further arrests are expected to be made over the course of our investigation."

The 29 year old will appear in the Waitakere District Court this morning.
