A homicide investigation is under way after a shooting in Kaikohe.

A man died on the way to hospital.
Police were called to the corner of Heke and Hongi Streets in Kaikohe at 8.45pm yesterday following reports of a firearm being discharged.
Acting detective senior sergeant Mark Dalzell says a man was discovered near a vehicle in a critical condition.
"At the time this male was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital for treatment, but sadly he has died enroute to hospital."
One person is now helping police with their enquiries, and no one else is being sought in relation to the incident.
"Our investigation is still in its early stages and a further update will be provided once there is further information is available," Dalzell said.
The scene was put under guard overnight and a examination will be carried out today.
