Two people have been hospitalised with serious and critical injuries after crashing into traffic lights while fleeing police in Christchurch early this morning.

Police said they signalled a vehicle in Cashmere to stop before 2am this morning.
According to police, the vehicle didn't stop and 25 seconds later hit traffic lights at the intersection of Colombo Street and Wherstead Road.
The driver received critical injuries, and the passenger has serious injuries.
Police said the pair were recovering in Christchurch Hospital.
Police are investigating the crash and the Independent Police Conduct Authority will be notified.
