An elderly woman has died in what police believe was a hit and run in Whanganui.

The woman's body was discovered near the intersection of Anzac Parade and Helmore Street around 1.55am today.
Emergency services attended and police searched the area but did not find any vehicle.
Police are asking for witnesses or any businesses or homes with CCTV footage to come forward.
They are also asking for any sightings of the elderly pedestrian in the Anzac Parade area before the time her body was found.
Anzac Parade was closed between Jones and Jellicoe Streets, with diversions in place.
