Police are still searching for the firearm used to kill an Australian tourist in western Waikato early on Friday.
Sean McKinnon was shot in his campervan, which he and his partner Bianca Buckley were sleeping in, south of Raglan.
Ms Buckley escaped uninjured.
Yesterday a 23-year-old Hamilton man appeared in the Hamilton District Court charged with murder, robbery causing grievous bodily harm and threatening to kill.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw hitchhikers in the Gordonton/Whitikahu north-east of the Hamilton area on Friday.
They want to hear from any motorist who travelled the roads in this area during daylight hours and has dashcam footage.
