Two charged over incident at takeaway

Two men have been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery of a takeway shop in Tokoroa on Monday night.

A masked man entered a Chinese takeaway premises and demanded money. However, there was a struggle with the shop owner and a number of shots were fired.

At the time, police believed the offender may have been wounded.

Police executed a search warrant on Tuesday night and found a Tokoroa man who had a gunshot wound to his leg.

He's currently in Waikato Hospital under police guard.

The man, 29, has been charged with assault with intent to rob, commission of a crime with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Another man, 30, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact.
