The families of elderly people in Canterbury will soon be able to see summarised audit reports of rest homes.
The Canterbury District Health Board will start publishing the summaries from July onwards in a bid to make the aged care industry more transparent.
The decision follows investigations into accusations of abuse at the Villa Gardens rest home in Christchurch in the past year.
The DHB says publicly issuing the summaries is in line with a Ministry of Health policy to make rest home audits more effective.
