Customers affected by a faulty cable in Wellington's northern suburbs were expected to have power restored by 7pm on Friday.
About 1200 customers were affected throughout the day due to a suspected fault in an underground power cable.
Lines company Wellington Electricity Networks said customers in the central business district, Kaiwharawhara, Ngaio, Broadmeadows and Khandallah lost power in the afternoon.
Ground crews were working to restore power to all customers by Friday night.
