Wednesday's papers: Housing New Zealand manager flees her home after her private address was revealed to the Mongrel Mob; Independent Police Conduct Authority recommends mandatory testing for drugs and alcohol after incidents such as police shootings.

The New Zealand Herald says police officers are likely to face drug and alcohol tests to ensure they are not under the influence during "critical incidents" such as the shooting of Steven Wallace.

A review by the Independent Police Conduct Authority's of Mr Wallace's death in 2000 recommends mandatory testing after such incidents.

The paper says working night shifts long term is expected to become a basis for compensation claims to ACC now that it has been established internationally as a probable cause of cancer.

The Dominion Post reports a senior Housing New Zealand manager has fled from her home and is under police guard after her private address was revealed to the Mongrel Mob.

Mystery surrounds the deaths of two experienced Levin fishermen whose boat took on water and sank on a Monday morning fishing trip which went terribly wrong.

Fashion industry heavyweights are condemning a series of new T-shirt designs that mimic David Bain's woollen jerseys. The pieces created by an online vintage fashion store are being described as a tasteless gimmick.

One of New Zealand's largest retailers is making an environmental stance that it says will take 20 million plastic bags out of circulation in a year.

From 20 April, The Warehouse will charge 10 cents per plastic bag at the checkout.

The Otago Daily Times says the mother of Steven Wallace has criticised police inaction over drug and alcohol testing for allegpolice officers involved in critical incidents such as her son's shooting.

A University of Otago campus watch member was reportedly assaulted, two people were arrested by police and a couch was set alight in Castle Street, as a crowd of students celebrated St Patricks Day in north Dunedin on Tuesday night.
