Police are urging witnesses to a suspicious house fire in Southland to come forward.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a property on Seaward Road in Edendale, shortly after 1am on Saturday morning.
Police say it was lucky a father and and his two-year-old son, who were home at the time, managed to escape uninjured.
The house has extensive damage and the fire is being treated as arson.
Anyone who was in the area at the time is urged to contact crimestoppers.
