Six awards for RNZ at New York Festivals

RNZ has won six accolades at the New York Festivals Radio Awards including three golds, two silvers and a bronze award.

Producer Sonia Sly won gold for Beyond Kate - a podcast and series of articles exploring 125 years of women's suffrage in New Zealand.

RNZ and Stuff true crime podcast Gone Fishing also won gold.

Another gold - for best live sound - went to Adrian Hollay and Paddy Hill for their Music Alive recording of Neil Finn and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

The New York Festival Grand Jury presented silver awards to Wallace Chapman in the Best Talk Show Host category and to Melody Thomas for her BANG! podcast about sex and sexuality.

RNZ's Insight documentary about NZ's role in the Malaysian plastics dumping ground, compiled by Nita Blake-Persen, Philippa Tolley and Phil Benge was awarded Bronze.

Finally, two RNZ submissions were finalists in their respective categories with certificates awarded to William Ray and Kathryn Ryan.

The awards come less than a week after a successful night for RNZ at the 2019 New Zealand Radio Awards.

RNZ picked up five awards at the event.
