A 13-year-old boy was stopped by police after the car he was driving was clocked doing nearly 140km/h while his father was asleep in the passenger's seat.
Officers stopped the car on Friday night near Taupiri and were told the 13-year-old was driving because his father was suffering from gout.
Police say it was a disaster waiting to happen.
The father is facing charges of aiding and abetting an unlicensed driver to drive.
