A woman has died in a serious assault in Mangere, South Auckland.
Police said they have launched a homicide investigation and were speaking with a man in connection to the incident.
They said the woman died at the scene after "it appears she has been hit by a vehicle".
Two other people were hurt in the incident: a woman has serious injuries and a man has moderate injuries, police said.
Counties Manukau detective inspector Colin Higson said emergency services were called to reports of an assault in the Mahunga Drive area at 3.40pm.
Police said a scene examination was underway and part of Mahunga Drive was closed.
They said a post-mortem would be done tomorrow.
"We would like to reassure the public that we do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the community," police said.
