Two women killed in car crash Swedish tourists

3:57 pm on 1 March 2009

Two women killed in a car crash in Northland on Saturday were Swedish tourists.

Police say the women, both in their 20s, appear to have crossed the centre line in their car on the north side of the Brynderwyn Hills, south of Whangarei.

Sergeant Chris Goodall says the area where the crash occurred is known as an accident black spot and had been affected by heavy rain.

He says the two women were travelling south when the driver lost control on a sweeping bend and their car was struck by a car in the northbound lane.

Mr Goodall says relatives of the tourists have now been contacted.

The driver of the other car received minor injuries.
