The crime squad is investigating after a cyclist was hit by a car on Queen Street in central Auckland early this morning.
A man in his 50s was taken to Auckland Hospital and died this morning.
Officers were called about 2.30am and temporarily closed the road. The car driver was taken into custody, police said.
The police are appealing for witnesses to the crash. As well as the Auckland crime squad, the serious crash unit is also investigating.
