The Fire Service says a mother and four children rescued from a burning house in west Auckland are incredibly lucky to be alive.
Four children aged between four and 10 years were rescued from the house in Ranui by neighbours at about 2.30am on Monday.
Senior fire safety officer Roy Warren says the fire appears to have started at a powerpoint.
Neighbours woke up when they heard glass breaking.
North Shore Hospital says seven people, including the children, have been treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns. All are in a stable condition.
