Joseph Larson, 20, pleaded not guilty to a charge of manslaughter in the High Court at Auckland this morning.

He is accused of killing 24-year-old Jerico Telea who died in hospital after being critically injured on Auckland's Queen Street on 20 April.

Mr Lason was initially charged with wounding with intent to grievous bodily harm but this was upgraded to manslaughter.

This morning his lawyer Emma Priest entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

He was supported by a dozen family members who sat in the public gallery.

He has been released on bail and will go to trial in May next year.
