Firefighters gained the upper hand in a fire in the Waikite Valley, south of Rotorua on Sunday evening.
About 40 firefighters were at the scene but now say the blaze is under control.
The Fire Communications officer Scott Osmond said the blaze swept through six hectares and at one stage threatened two homes.
At 9pm on Sunday he said the fire was under control and 10 appliances and 40 staff were still at the scene.
