10:22 am on 29 January 2009

Police in Hamilton are now based in schools around the city.

Three constables and a sergeant have moved into offices at Hamilton Girls, Melville and Fraser High Schools, as well as Fairfield Intermediate.

Senior Sergeant Lance Tebbutt says these locations allow the officers to cover several different areas. They will target bullying and truancy.

He says police are also based at individual schools in South Auckland and Northland.

But he says it's the first time officers have been installed in schools across an entire city.

Senior Sergeant Tebbutt says they will target bullying and truancy, while acting as role models for the students.
