School yet to decide if students will return to fatal gorge

The school at the centre of a canyoning tragedy in the Mangatepopo Gorge last year is yet to decide whether it will make future trips there.

The Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre is to plead guilty to charges laid by the Department of Labour, after the deaths of six students and their teacher on 15 April.

The families of those killed welcomed the decision but say it will not bring closure.

Elim Christian College board chair Danie Vermeulen says the school will have to consider carefully its next move and consult staff and parents.

He says they will also talk with students to see how they feel about the school going back to the centre.
