The commissioner at Selwyn College in Auckland says 2009 will be a difficult year but she will stay as long as necessary.

Collene Roche has been charged with overseeing the college after the Minister of Education dismissed the board of trustees on Tuesday.

Poor teaching standards in junior classes, and communicaton problems with the community were highlighted in the latest report on the college by the Education Review Office.

Ms Roche says there is a goal for 2009 to be a high achieving year for the college.

She says the ERO report did show positives, but she was surprised at some of its other findings.

A specialist advisor has been in place at Selwyn College since early 2007.
