A man's body was found in Christchurch's Heathcote River last night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Worner said the man's body was found at about 7.20pm.
Police are waiting for the results of a post mortem to be completed to determine the cause of death.
A guard is currently in place at the site where the man's body was found.
