Diesel spill at New Plymouth beach

About 100 litres of a liquid thought to be diesel has spilled into the sea near New Plymouth today.

Taranaki Regional Council said booms had been deployed at Ngāmotu Beach to contain the liquid.

The clean-up is expected to continue this evening and the public is being advised to stay off the beach

Council compliance manager Bruce Pope said the spill had stopped and its source was being investigated.
