The person who died after falling into a creek in rural Ashburton yesterday was a 1-year-old girl.
The death, reported earlier, happened at a property on Maronan Valetta Road, Westerfield.
Police said the child was found unresponsive and was taken to Christchurch Hospital by helicopter, but later died.
An investigation is under way.
