A person has died after the vehicle they were driving crashed into a tree north of Christchurch.
Emergency services were called to Domett Road in the Hurunui District at 4.20pm.
The sole occupant died at the scene.
The road is open to one lane and the Serious Crash Unit is attending.
In another accident, a motorbike rider is in a critical condition after a crash at a race track in Christchurch just after 3pm.
It happened at the New Zealand Superbike Championship held at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park in Ruapuna.
Police said the rider was taken to Christchurch Hospital and they are making enquiries.
