The investigation into the death of a 22-year-old man on Matakana Island in the Bay of Plenty has been upgraded to a homicide.
A post mortem was conducted today, but police will not reveal the cause of death.
Emergency services were alerted to the death shortly after 2pm yesterday.
Police said the name of the victim will be released when all family have been advised.
Any person who was present at the temporary camping ground on Matakana Point Road on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day have been asked to make contact with Tauranga police.
