Firefighters are continuing to fight a scrub fire that has been burning since Boxing Day near Whangārei.

The blaze that has been burning for five days on Pipiwai Road has burnt through up to 100 hectares of bush so far.
Earlier in the day four helicopters drenched the fire, in a rural valley near Pipiwai, north of Whangārei, but they have now left although firefighters are still there.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
