A manslaughter charge has been laid following the death of a man in Whangārei overnight.

Police were called yesterday evening after a 52-year-old man was allegedly punched in the head and knocked unconscious outside the Te Mai shops, on Maunu Road.
He was taken to hospital, but died from his injuries.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
He is expected to appear in the Whangārei District Court this afternoon.
