A police spokesperson said multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred near the south-bound Ellerslie-Panmure on-ramp about 3.15pm.

No-one was injured but emergency services were still working on clearing the road as of 4.30pm.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said the section of motorway was re-opened.

Motorists were previously asked to stay away from the area or expect significant delays, although it was unsure what delay times were now the road had reopened.
